What Ever Happened to Two Tone Cars?

I saw a two-tone car today. It was a fancy BMW - gold on the bottom and brown up to - or whas it the other way round? doesn't matter - what matters is I thought about it and remembered the last time I saw one. It was a car I almost bought - A 1974 Monte Carlo with swivel seats, but at $4 an hour the gas cost more than a day's wages. I got the Honda instead.

  • Separate body panels and trim made visual contrast easier.
  • Modern manufacturing, aerodynamics, and buyer preferences pushed toward simpler palettes.
  • Premium brands have occasionally brought the look back as a customization option.

I looked it up - you CAN buy a BMW in two-tone, but only the expensive one of course.
